In another example, the cyclometalated iridium complex [Ir(ppy)2(4-vinylpyridine)Cl] has been attached via hydrosilation see Hydrosilation) to hydride-terminated poly(dimethylsiloxane) to produce a luminescent material. Evaluation of this material as a luminescent oxygen sensor revealed significantly improved sensitivity over dispersions of the original vinyl pyridine complex in poly(dimethylsiloxane). The luminescent material was blended with polystyrene to give a new sensor that exhibited increased sensitivity and maintained short response times to rapid changes in air pressure.

The aforementioned cyclometallated iridium complex 14 developed by Xiao and co-workers was also effective for iV-alkylation of anilines and even benzohydrazide with diisopropylamine under mild conditions (Eq. 78) [113]. 

At high pH, the stability of the cyclometalated iridium complexes 21 and 23 is limited, because they gradually decomposed when heated in 1 M NaOH at 80 °C for 24 hours. At room temperature, the stability was higher and the complexes were partly deuterated when dissolved in 1M NaOH. Time-dependent H NMR spectroscopy allowed the sequence of deuteration to be monitored, thus providing access to selectivity patterns (Figure 3.2).
