In an ideal situation there would be abundant data of high quality obtained from several complementary techniques, requiring fairly minimal and straightforward interpretation. In practice the situation may be constrained to be far from ideal, and interpretation must be undertaken carefully and realistically. The more direct and transparent the interpretation, and the greater the extent to which it is compatible with prior information about the problem, the more likely it is that the conclusions from it will be of use to the customer.
