Parameter critical point

Two versions of the Ba-Cd phase diagram are very similar and, but for some minor differences in the critical point parameters, differ only in the stoichiometry of the compound at 17 at% Ba-Ba2Cd9 or BaCd . Since ref. 5 includes a structural analysis of the intermediate compounds, this phase diagram is recommended. There are five intermediate compounds in the system. Four of these melt congruently, BaCd (SSS C), BaCdj (642°C), Ba2Cd, (620°C) and BaCd (672°C) the other, BajCd (409°C), is formed in a peritectic reaction. The existence of Ba2Cd BaCd, BaCdj, and BaCd], has been verified in separate crystallographic studies. [Pg.458]

The expressions (2.46)-(2.48) for the three critical-point parameters can be inverted in many possible ways (depending on which pair of T P Vc are chosen as independent variables) to obtain the two Van der Waals parameters a, b. The most commonly chosen solutions are... [Pg.54]

The advantages of this kind of procedure are their generality and ability to make estimations over a wide range of states and classes of pure substances and mixtures. Indeed, extensions of such procedures by means of further empirical steps relating the requisite parameters of substances to critical point parameters and/or molecular structure then enable estimations of the transport properties of substances to be made for which no direct measurements exist. [Pg.24]

The inflection point of the van der Waals equation at the critical point is very helpful in a mathematical sense since not only is the first-derivative zero at that point but the first-derivative (slope) changes sign on either side of the critical point so the second derivative (curvature) must also go through zero. We now embark on a series of mathematical manipulations to determine the (a, b) parameters of a given gas from the experimental critical point parameters (F, Vc, FJ. [Pg.16]

That is a demonstration of the law of corresponding states for the van der Waals equation in terms of the reduced variables. Other equations of state should also pass the test of freedom from parameters when expressed in terms of the reduced variables. Learning and/or memorization of the derivation of the van der Waals critical point parameters will simultaneously improve your math skills as well as emphasize the importance of the critical point. The formulas for the critical temperature and critical pressure will be used in later discussion. How fast can you do this derivation ... [Pg.18]
