Crinitol from Cystoseira crinita

Some molecules, like those of oxocrinol and 6,10-dimethyl-5,9-undecadien-2,8-dione (a derivative of gerany-lacetone), both isolated from Cystoseira crinita, could be degradation products of crinitol (Fattorusso et al., 1976 Amico et al., 1980). [Pg.441]

Crinitol (1) was first isolated from one of the most studied marine brown algae, Cystoseira crinita Bory (Cystoseiraceae), and its structure was established as 3,7,11,15-tetramethylhexadeca-2,6,10,14-tetraene-l,9-diol (1) it was later found in the closely related species Cystoseira balearica (2). The absolute configuration at C-9 was not determined in the Cystoseira-deiived samples, but was determined as Rin crinitol isolated from another brown... [Pg.25]
