Crazy glue

Cyanoacetic acid also is an intermediate in the production of synthetic caffeine and certain polymethine dyes [95]. Cyanoacetic esters reacting with formaldehyde are used to produce cyanoacrylate adhesives such as miracle glue and crazy glue [96]. [Pg.276]

Adhesives made from cyanoacrylates are among the best known adhesives, sold under trade names such as Super Glue and Crazy Glue. Monomers such as butyl-alpha-cyanoacrylate (Figure 16) polymerize spontaneously in the presence of moisture. The presence of the cyano and acrylate groups, both quite polar, makes this a particularly good adhesive it is used in surgery and for mechanical assemblies. [Pg.1048]

Most commercial glues such as the popular Crazy Glue do not use plasticizers. These glues are based on ethyl and butyl derivatives of cyanoacrylate. A new development involves the use of octyl-2-cyanoacrylate in medical and veterinary applications. These new adhesives usually require plasticizers. [Pg.289]

Intimate interfacial contact is promoted by the wetting of surfaces by a fluid adhesive which also displaces air from the surface if it has low viscosity prior to setting. This is the major characteristic of crazy glue that makes it so effective. [Pg.225]
