Contracted power method

A contracted power method for the 2-RDM may be developed by projecting the A-particle power method onto the space of two particles... [Pg.193]

The 2-RDM is automatically antisymmetric, but it may require an adjustment of the trace to correct the normalization. The functionals in Table I from cumulant theory allow us to approximate the 3- and the 4-RDMs from the 2-RDM and, hence, to iterate with the contracted power method. Because of the approximate reconstruction the contracted power method does not yield energies that are strictly above the exact energy. As in the full power method the updated 2-RDM in Eq. (116) moves toward the eigenstate whose eigenvalue has the largest magnitude. [Pg.193]

Here we synthesize the concepts of the last four sections, (i) CSE, (ii) reconstruction, (iii) purification, and (iv) a contracted power method, to obtain an iterative algorithm for the direct calculation of the 2-RDM. [Pg.193]

Thus the application of EXAFS analysis increases the predsion with which structures can be determined in these systems, and when used in combination with other techniques it provides a powerful method of structural analyds. For example, from an investigation on a monometallic platinum colloid in which TEM and EXAFS analyses were combined, a lattice contraction was found for the 2.6 nm metal particles. [200]... [Pg.501]

LLNL was contracted to use the results of the Seismic Hazard Characterization Project (SHCP). (NUREG/CR-5250) to calculate the seismic hazard at the SRS using methods similar to the Seismic Owners Group-Electric Power Research Institute (SOG/EPRI) and LLNL the (wo seismic hazard estimates for the SRS are different. The SHCP (Savy, 1988) seismic hazani results are typically within a factor of 5. Results of the seismic analysis are given in Table 11.3-6... [Pg.420]

Fines should normally be kept as short and free of bends as possible. However, tubing should not be assembled in a straight line, because a bend tends to eliminate strain by absorbing vibration and compensates for thermal expansion and contraction. Bends are preferred to elbows, because bends cause less loss of power. Some of the correct and incorrect methods of installing tubing are illustrated in Figure 40.26. [Pg.616]

AuH and Au2 serve as benchmark molecules to test the performance of various relativistic approximations. Figure 4.7 shows predictions for relativistic bond contractions of Au2 from various quantum chemical calculations over more than a decade. In the early years of relativistic quantum chemistry these predictions varied significantly (between 0.2 and 0.3 A), but as the methods and algorithms became more refined, and the computers more powerful, the relativistic bond contraction for Au2 converged and is now at 0.26 A. [Pg.195]

Two illustrations that show the power of this reaction for the preparation of strained cycloalkenes are the contractions of 102 to the propellane 103 , an application that has been reviewed , and of 104 to the bicyclo[2.1.1]hexene 105 . The utility of the Ramberg-Backlund rearrangement in the preparation of various natural products such as steroids , terpenoids and pheromones has been demonstrated. In addition to the synthetic applications mentioned in the previous subsection, several selected examples taken from the recent literature are given in equations 66-69. These examples further demonstrate the potential of this method for alkene synthesis in general. [Pg.697]

The last step is to optimize the lead compounds. The computational methods in combination with SAR information has proved to be a powerful approach to determine areas on the molecule to expand, contract, or modify. Analogs of the lead compound are ranked using one or all of the following methods 1) qualitative predictions using molecular mechanics... [Pg.319]

The same authors presented data on pressure drop at abrupt contractions for which their method of correlation has a rational basis. In this work both the fluid used and the pipe diameter were changed simultaneously hence the reasons for the absence of any correlation in this case cannot be specified. Their general method of approach appears to be a powerful and useful basis for further work but has not yet led to a recommended design procedure. [Pg.115]

One common method used by management in order to limit, direct and control the discretionary power and autonomy of street-level bureaucrats is work by contract (Lipsky 1980). When this method is used, employees must complete a certain specified number of matters within a specific time. A counter-strategy among street-level bureaucrats when subjected to this kind of method is to shift their focus from complicated and time-consuming matters to matters that can be completed quickly and easily. Within both SWEA and SCI work by contract is practiced on an individual and a collective level - piecework is the phrase the interviewees use when referring to work by contract. Inspectors can, for example, receive one piece for an inspection or a requirement they make on an inspection object. One way to live up to the contract is to accomplish many easy and simplified inspections, especially if there is a risk that the stipulated measures will not be reached. By doing so, the inspectors can create more leeway for their discretion and autonomy. However, at the same time the risk that the policy outcomes will deviate from expected and politically decided on outcomes increases. [Pg.330]
