Containment earthquake loads

Part AD This part contains requirements for the design of vessels. The rules of Division 2 are based on the maximum-shear theoiy of failure for stress failure and yielding. Higher stresses are permitted when wind or earthquake loads are considered. Any rules for determining the need for fatigue analysis are given here.

The pressure and the level of water in the suppression pool of a BWR containment may oscillate in the process of condensing steam in the pool during the actuation of a safety/relief valve and a LOCA. Several kinds of dynamic loads induced by those oscillations may be applied to the wall and other structures in the pool. Those loads should be assessed quantitatively to verify that the containment integrity is maintained during the actuation of safety/relief valve and a LOCA. The assessment should be based on experimental results other types of quasi-static and dynamic loads induced by events during the actuation of a safety/relief valve and a LOCA such as the pressure increase, jet impingement, and an earthquake should be taken into account in the assessment. 

A further development of the layout of the containment and adjoining structural units is showing the Asea-Atom current design. Consideration has also been taken to earthquake and airplane crash loading. The structural connection between the fuel pools and the containment proper has been further simplified.

The set of uncertain input parameters is abbreviated by V Q,R), neglecting further properties. For example, 2 (M, [0,1]) is a set of fuzzy numbers.
