In animal tissue, D-glucuronic acid has only been shown to occur as a component of hyaluronic acid, chondroitinsulfuric acid, mucoitinsulfuric acid, heparin, and the conjugates of D-glucuronic acid. In contrast to the mucopolysaccharides, the conjugates of D-glucuronic acid are relatively simple compounds.

The kinetics of the conjugation of D-glucuronic acid in some cases seem to follow a first-order reaction. Bray4 has recently reviewed the work in his laboratory on this subject. 

In view of the widespread importance of D-glucuronic acid in mucopolysaccharides, it would be strange indeed if any animal should prove unable to synthesize conjugates of D-glucuronic acid, unless the two mechanisms should be totally unrelated, which seems unlikely.
