Concast

Thus the concaster combines in a single process what previously took two separate processes. This is both highly energy-efficient and produces a better quality product.

Figure 8.19 presents micrographs of the surface of a concast grid from 3BS plate cured at 40 °C for 48 h. The oxidized intergrain layer was dissolved using a solution of glucose and NaOH.

More recently Wirtz introduced a process called Conroll in which the Concast grids were cast in a thicker cross section and then rolled to produce a uniform grain structure and improved mechanical properties. The rolling adds additional speed to the grid production process and rates of more than 500 grids per minute are achieved.
