This chapter discusses ways in which more complex client applications can be written. These programs use SQL to select, insert, delete, or update tables in the database. Depending on the computer language used for the client program, a variety of interface libraries is available. [Pg.137]

Sun Microsystems began with four employees in 1982 as a computer hardware manufecturer. With the rise of the Internet, the company seized the opportunity to create its computer language with its special tool, the Java Virtual Machine, which could be downloaded to any type of machine. This Java Virtual Machine contained a program called an interpreter, rather than a compiler, to act as an interface between the specific machine (platform) and the user. The result was a great enhancement in the interoperabihty of data on the Internet, and Java became the primary programming language on the Web. [Pg.415]
