Sodium Metaborate Tetrahydrate and Dihydrate, The sodium metaborates are components in textile finishing, sizing and scouring compositions, adhesives, and detergents. Dispersion Characteristics The chief characteristics of gas-in-liquid dispersions, like those of hquid-in-gas suspensions, are heterogeneity and instabihty. The composition and structure of an unstable dispersion must be obsei ved in the dynamic situation by looking at the mixture, with or without the aid of optical devices, or by photographing it, preferably in nominal steady state photographs usually are required for quantitative treatment. We may now deal with some of the procedures employed in quantitative spectrographic analysis. In the comparison sample method, the spectrum of an unknown sample is compared with the spectra of a range of samples of known composition (e.g. those supplied by the US Bureau of Standards) with respect to a particular component or components. The spectra of the unknown and of the various standards are photographed on the same plate under the same conditions. The concentrations of the desired constituent can then be estimated by comparing the blackening of the lines of the particular constituent with the same lines on the standards visual or photometric comparison of blackening may be used. [Pg.769]

An adhesive tape for photographic films can be made by using a coating containing a water- or alkali-soluble polymer and ether carboxylate [211]. A light-sensitive resin composition with ether carboxylic acid salt for flexographic plate material shows an improved flexibility and solvent resistance [212]. [Pg.344]

Two checks of the accuracy of the determinations of the lattice constants were made. Filings of samples 2 and 3 were placed in capillary tubes of two different diameters, and photographs were made and interpreted. For each sample the same lattice constant was obtained from the two photographs. For samples 11 and 14 filings were prepared from two different portions of the 25 g. sample, and powder photographs were prepared. In the case of specimen 11 the lattice constant determined from the two preparations was the same, whereas for specimen 14 values differing by 0-0055 A were obtained. We believe that the latter variation is due to a small difference in composition, perhaps 0-5 %, in the two samples the lattice constant is very sensitive to composition in this region. [Pg.592]
