Compliments

Diffusion filtration is another contributor to the process of sand filtration. Diffusion in this case is that of Brownian motion obtained by thermal agitation forces. This compliments the mechanism in sand filtration. Diffusion increases the contact probability between the particles themselves as well as between the latter and the filter mass. This effect occurs both in water in motion and in stagnant water, and is quite important in the mechanisms of agglomeration of particles (e.g., flocculation). [Pg.252]

Ion exchange and carbon adsorption are unrelated technologies, and often have different objectives. They are however oftentimes used in compliment to achieve high water quality attributes. [Pg.372]

Vj attdHj, or r, and andP andV andli. Upon comparison to go from failure to success one or vice versa probability is complimented and logic is reversed AND goes OR and vice versa, as indicated by de Morgan s theorem (Table 2.2-1). [Pg.101]

There is also merit in preparing a customer feedback procedure rather than limiting the procedure to complaints. Your staff should be informed of the compliments made by customers as well as the complaints, because it improves morale. [Pg.455]

It should be noted that this reductive method compliments other reactions for the preparation of certain thermodynamically more stable labeled epimeric alcohols (see section III-B). [Pg.167]

The probe molecules of greatest historical interest in catalysis are the Hammett indicators [13]. The difficulty of making reliable visual or spectrophotometric observations of the state of protonation of these species on solids is well known. We have recently carried out the first NMR studies of Hanunett indicators on solid acids [ 14]. This was also the occasion of the first detailed collaboration between the authors of this article, and theoretical methods proved to strongly compliment the NMR experiments. The Hanunett story is told after first reviewing the application of theoretical chemistry to such problems. Central to the application of any physical method in chemistry is the process of modeling the relationship between the observables and molecular structure. However often one does this, it is rarely an exact process. One can rationalize almost any trend in isotropic chemical shift as a function of some variation in molecular structure - after the fact, but the quantitative prediction of such trends in advance defies intuition in most nontrivial cases. Even though the NMR spectrum is a function... [Pg.575]

For a moment we were too astonished to speak. Then, C est bien, mon seigneur, my mother said, inclining her head unsmil-ingly, as if she accepted a compliment from a man she did not admire. We shall be ready. ... [Pg.109]

The low molecular weight mJz region of spectra derived from microorganism whole cells is generally comprised of mass spectral peaks derived from glycerides, phospholipids, glycolipids, and small protein fragments. This mass spectral information should be examined as a compliment to protein bio-... [Pg.283]

Mass spectrometry has meanwhile become an important part of academic education in analytical chemistry. It can be found in the curricula of most undergraduate as well as graduate courses in the field. The publication of this dedicated textbook is, therefore, a timely undertaking and the editors and authors are to be complimented for the effort to put the book together. [Pg.403]
