Competitive glycosidase inhibitors

Polyhydroxylated piperidines from natural sources, which have structures and shapes resembling monosaccharides have been found as a -glycosidase inhibitors. They competitively inhibit glycosidases whose substrates they most closely resemble. 1-Deoxynojirimycin (moranoline) (98 1), was isolated from Mori Cortex (root bark of the mulberry tree, Morus bombycis (Moraceae)), leaves of Jacobinia suberecta (Acanthaceae)... [Pg.178]

QHijNOs, Mr 179.17, cryst., mp. 126-130°C, [ajo +63° (HjO final value). TTie amino sugar N. is present in the culture broths of various Streptomyces species (e. g., Streptomyces lavendulae). It exhibits very good antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria. N. is a competitive inhibitor for specific glycosidases and simulates carbohydrate substrates (a- and jS-glu-cosidases). It is accessible by synthesis. ... [Pg.438]

Diazirines (131) and (132), which are photolabile, are excellent competitive inhibitors of the corresponding glycosidases and can be used for photolabelling the enzymes. ... [Pg.45]
