Mosimann S, S Meleshko and M N G Jones 1995. A Critical Assessment of Comparative Molecular Modeling of Tertiary Structures of Proteins. Proteins Structure, Function and Genetics 23 301-317. [Pg.576]

The advent of molecular genetic techniques such as amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) analysis, where the degree of difference in the DNA between individual lines or species can be compared, has allowed the establishing of a much more precise assessment of genetic relatedness. [Pg.32]

All molecular genetic techniques require some amount of specialized scientific equipment. Because many items of equipment are expensive, it is a good idea to determine what instrumentation exists at the department or institution level, and to what extent it can be shared. Table II provides information on equipment required for the various comparative techniques and the ease with which each instrument can be shared. Items that typically are shared include large equipment such as high-speed and ultra-... [Pg.14]

Change affects not only methodological aspects of laboratory work but equipment requirements as well. For example, thermal cyclers are a necessity in molecular laboratories today but were unheard of before the advent of PCR. PCR technology has also made it possible to do a good deal of comparative molecular work without the aid of ultracentrifuges or steam sterilizers, items that are expensive but irreplaceable components of a standard molecular genetics laboratory. Clearly, it behooves die researcher... [Pg.21]
