The same multigenic approach can apply to cancer pharmacogenomic research, which may be especially relevant to cancer therapies that do not have an obvious candidate polymorphism in metabolism genes and do not have a major protein target, such as cisplatin-based chemotherapy and radiation therapy as well as combinatorial therapy with multiple agents. We will use cisplatin-based chemotherapy as a prototype to illustrate the application of using a pathway-based approach in pharmacogenomic studies. 

Even as new approaches to treat patients with prostate cancer show promise, further improvements must still be made. Targeting chemokine-mediated processes along with stimulation of an enhanced immune response may yield important new advances in therapy. Other such combinatorial therapies must be explored if we are to make inroads in the treatment of patients with advanced stages of this disease. 

By taking advantage of this property, many studies have shown that GO can be used for combinatorial therapy where it can be tagged with any ligand such as folic acid [88] or chlorotoxin [89] and loaded with DOX for specific cancer chemotherapy and PTT. 

Quassinoids have attracted much attention due to the wide spectrum of biological activities that they display, viz., antimalarial, antifeedant, anti-inflanunatory, antiulcer, antipyretic, antifertility, antileukemic, cytotoxic activities, and induction of murine stem cell differentiation which have been widely reported [54-59]. We have demonstrated that quassin is a potent immunomodulatory tool that efficiently controls the estabhshment of leishmanial parasite within the host macrophages [60]. Our contention was that quassin could be used as a potential inununomodulator to generate the required immunity not only for the treatment of leishmaniasis but also for the treatment of other chronic infectious diseases. Subsequently, we had shown that both quassin and neoquassin can be used along with artesunate (a derivative of artemisinin) as combinatorial therapy against malaria [61].
