The amount of branching introduced into a polymer is an additional variable that must be specified for the molecule to be fully characterized. When only a slight degree of branching is present, the concentration of junction points is sufficiently low that these may be simply related to the number of chain ends. For example, two separate linear molecules have a total of four ends. If the end of one of these linear molecules attaches itself to the middle of the other to form a T, the resulting molecule has three ends. It is easy to generalize this result. Heckling. The bundles are hackled or combed to separate the short and long fibers. This is done by drawiug the fibers through sets of pius, each set finer than the previous one. As a result the fibers are further cleaned and aligned parallel to one another. 

Hair conditioning can be associated with almost any hair product sold in the marketplace because they all claim some benefit to the hair when used. Thus the term hair conditioner can be appHed to such products as rinses, hair dressings, setting lotions, and hair sprays. Conditioners are used to provide different effects to the hair primarily ease of combing, sheen, and soft feel. 

The method used to apply and dry a fixative affects the degree of stiffness and hold it imparts to the hairstyle. If appHed and then manipulated with a comb, bmsh, or fingers as the polymer forms its film, the adhesive bonds between the hair are broken, the film coating the hair is broken, and the end result is a soft feel with Htde set retention. If the fixative is allowed to dry undisturbed, then the result is a firmer feel and better hold. 

Finishing sprays and spritzes are sprayed on clean, dry hair and tested for drying time, stiffness, combing ease, flaking after combing and stickiness upon contact with moisture. Additionally, hair hoi ding properties are evaluated by measurements of the cud retention at various humidities. Standardized water-set cuds are sprayed with standard amounts of product under controlled circumstances. They are then dried, placed into vadous humidity levels, and the cud fall monitored at vadous time pedods. 

Polyquatemium-11 is the copolymer of A/-vinylpyrrohdinone and dimethyl-arninoethyl methacylate quatemized with dimethylsulfate (20). It is used widely but provides Htde hold to the hair. Its primary advantage is its abiUty to improve the ease of wet combing and control static while giving a light set hold.
