Columns and Packing Procedures

Open column chromatography is commonly carried out with simple glass columns. The dimensions of the column depend on the quantity of material to be separated. The smallest columns are only a few millimetres in diameter and a few centimetres long, while the largest may be several centimetres in diameter and of correspondingly greater length. Some model experiments are described in Chapter 9, where column sizes are specified. [Pg.117]

In order to obtain maximum efficiency the column must be evenly packed. The influence of particle size and regularity of packing on column performance has been discussed elsewhere (Chapter 2). While open tubular [Pg.117]
