Coloumbic interaction

The first calculations of the shift of the band gap in small particles of a semiconductor were made by Efros und Efros They treated the model of two Coloumb-interacting... [Pg.172]

Like all polymeric structures, keratin fibres consist of long, tightly bound molecular chains held together in many different ways from covalent bonds to weaker interactions such as hydrogen bonds, Coloumbic interactions, van der Walls interactions and, when water is present, hydrophobic bonds. Hair reactivity is complex and depends not only on the presence of reactive groups in the fibre, but also on their availability. The latter is significantly affected by fibre morphology and molecular structure [2]. Hair is mostly proteinaceous in nature, while structural hpids and other materials represent only a minor fraction of its constituents. [Pg.123]

NMR study of mero-tetrakis-(l-methyl pyridinium-4-yl)-porphyrin with SDS and Triton X-100 indicates that it interacts with SDS and exists as monomeric entities in the anionic SDS micelles. No interaction is observed with cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide and Triton X-100. The intercalation appears to be due to coloumbic rather than hydrophobic interactions.230 Interactions of water-insoluble mono-para-phenyl-substituted tetraphenyl porphyrins with tetra-decane trimethyl ammonium bromide, SDS and Triton X-100 have been studied by H and l3C NMR spectroscopy in detail.231... [Pg.174]

For this system the interaction is simply a sum of coloumbic terms. In Fig. 11 we present two energy correlation diagrams. The energy levels at large p approach the energies of the isolated muonic atoms and We see that the states interact strongly. We... [Pg.122]

Figure 2. The classical distinction of friction modes. The contact mechanical work, or friction, leads to adhesive and cohesive deformations in the contact. This produces deformations which can be elastic, plastic or brittle in nature. Heat is produced. The scheme does not show the friction processes associated with Coloumbic (ratchet) friction or the Schallamach wave phenomena. The two-term non interaction model of friction considers the adhesive and cohesive (ploughing) to be separate and non-interacting. Figure 2. The classical distinction of friction modes.
