Color radiography

The most imporant use of cobalt is in the manufacture of various wear-resistant and superalloys. Its alloys have shown high resistance to corrosion and oxidation at high temperatures. They are used in machine components. Also, certain alloys are used in desulfurization and hquefaction of coal and hydrocracking of crude oil shale. Cobalt catalysts are used in many industrial processes. Several cobalt salts have wide commercial apphcations (see individual salts). Cobalt oxide is used in glass to impart pink or blue color. Radioactive cobalt-60 is used in radiography and sterihzation of food. [Pg.231]

At present only rare earth x-ray phosphors meet most of these characteristics. Rare earth phosphors are also useful for color contrast radiography. [Pg.217]

Sampling. Two sets of vibracores were collected at each site. A previously collected set was used, along with other cores in each area, to determine stratigraphic and sedimentologic relationships. Color, texture, and structure were used to establish different lithofacies, which were later verified or modified using x-ray radiography. Ash and total sulfur contents were then determined for channel samples of these units. [Pg.193]

Some applications other than laser materials are the following luminescent materials for lighting, for display in cathode-ray tubes, and for X-ray radiography scintillator materials electroluminescent thin films glasses for solar concentrators colored materials for all types of applications (e.g., pigments). The greater part of these applications were reviewed in refs. 2 and 3. Optical centers can in many cases also be used as probes of the surroundings. [Pg.320]

Use Weighting mud in oil-drilling, paper coatings, paints, filler and delustrant for textiles, rubber, plastics and lithograph inks, base for lake colors, X-ray photography, opaque medium for gastrointestinal radiography, in battery plate expanders. [Pg.125]

OTHER COMMENTS used in the manufacture of cellophane and photographic papers useful as a filler for rubber, linoleum, textiles, plastics, and lithograph inks also used as a water-color pigment for colored paper and in wallpaper other uses include x-ray photography and as an opaque medium for gastrointestinal radiography. [Pg.423]
