The molecular mass determined osmometrically corresponds to the formula S5O. The SO stretching vibration was observed in the infrared spectrum at 1119 cm (at -65 °G) indicating an exocyclic sulfoxide group similar to the one in SsO (see below). At -50 °G the solution of S5O may be kept for several days without decomposition which usually results in a Tyndall effect caused by a colloidal polymeric sulfuroxide which is the expected decomposition product. In aquatic systems dissolved aluminum species are toxic to fish. There exists a vast number of aluminum species, ranging from inorganic monomeric to complex colloidal. polymeric and organic complexes. A major problem, when studying aluminum species in water is that the species quickly convert one into the other (Fairman and Sanz-Medel 1995). 

An aqueous colloidal polymeric dispersion by definition is a two-phase system comprised of a disperse phase and a dispersion medium. The disperse phase consists of spherical polymer particles, usually with an average diameter of 200-300 nm. According to their method of preparation, aqueous colloidal polymer dispersions can be divided into two categories (true) latices and pseudolatices. True latices are prepared by controlled polymerization of emulsified monomer droplets in aqueous solutions, whereas pseudolatices are prepared starting from already polymerized macromolecules using different emulsification techniques.
