Cognitive behaviors knowledge-level

Knowledge-level cognitive behaviors are the easiest to teach, learn, and evaluate. They often refer to rote memorization or identification. Employees often parrot information or memorize lists or name objects. Common action words such as identify, name, hst, repeat, recognize, state, match, and define (System Safety Training, 2000). [Pg.317]

Application-level cognitive behaviors move beyond the realm of explaining concepts orally or in writing. They deal with putting ideas into practice and involve a routine process. Employees apply the knowledge they have learned. For example, action words commonly used include the following demonstrate, calculate, do, operate, implement, compute, construct, measure, prepare, and produce (System Safety Training, 2000). [Pg.318]

Individual operator competencies are also often discussed in relation to the Skill, Rule, and Knowledge (SRK) framework. Vicente (1999) described three hierarchical levels of human behavior skill-, rule-, and knowledge-based behaviors. Each of the levels within the SRK framework defines a different level of cognitive control or human action. Skill-based behavior occurs in routine situations that require highly practiced and automatic behavior and where there is only small conscious control on behalf of the operator. Skill-based behavior consists of smooth, automated, and highly integrated patterns of action that are performed without conscious attention. [Pg.15]
