Cocurrent principle

In industrial practice the co-current and co-current-counter-current methods are used. Thus, for example, the process in single nitrators may be based on a cocurrent principle while a number of nitrators may be connected in such a way as to work as a battery of counter-current system. 

The cocurrent principle, mentioned in Chapter 1.1, is the basis for the following general discussion of steady-state cocurrent operations.

Cocurrent-Countercurrent Combination Flow, in this hybrid Dow pattern, both the feed and the permeant streams ate assumed to be plug flow, but the permeant product is withdrawn at both ends of the separator as shown in Fig. 20,6-6c. In principle, there will be a position in the permeant side where the permeant flow tine is zero, which alno divides the separator into a countercurrant region on one side and a cocumenl region ou the other side.
