Coatings oxidation-resistant high temperature

The outlook for NbAl3 as an oxidation-resistant high-temperature structural alloy or coating is poor. Recent alloy development efforts related to NbAl3 have been directed towards its incorporation as a minor phase in a multiphase alloy (see review by Sauthoff (1995c) and also Section 6.8 for further details). 

The CVD of TaC has few industrial applications. It has been used as a coating on tantalum metal to improve chemical resistance, high-temperature hardness, and wear and oxidation resistance. 

The heart of corrosion science has been identified as electrochemical science coupled with the thermodynamic and kinetic values. Other limbs are oxidation and high-temperature oxidation of metals, protective coatings, passivity, inhibitors, microbial-induced corrosion, corrosion fatigue, hydrogen embrittlement and corrosion-resistant alloys. Having identified the limbs of corrosion science, it is instructive to examine how the various aspects came into existence over a period of time.
