A ternary liquid-liquid system for partition chromatography is prepared from a mixture of 2,2,4-trimethylpentane, ethanol and water (34 5 1). The less polar upper layer is used as the stationary phase. A diatomaceous material, Hyflow Super Cel (particle size, 7-11 jam), is used as the solid support. Figure 23 illustrates the form of the curve for the determination of Cd, Tl, and Pb by stripping chronopotentiometry. The normal potential - time curve (A) is compared with the second derivative (B). from which the transition times can be more simply and accurately obtained. Indeed TFE can be copolymerized with numerous other monomers under conditions similar to those used for its homopolymerization. SAXS is best suited for thin ( 0.1 mm or less) sample materials, balancing between a minimimi atomic niunber density for low absorption and a maximum atomic niunber density for scattering contrast SAXS experiments are usually performed in transmission mode. The use of grazing incidence (GI-)SAXS geometry, discussed in more detail below, enables microstructure determination within a thin film or coating in situ on the substrate.
