Coated printing papers, paper grades

Materials. A variety of commercial uncoated and coated printing grade papers were selected for this study (see Table I). These papers were evaluated with an. aqueous dye-based ink of surface tension (y) approximately 60 mN.m-1.

Digital printing papers (synonymous with electronic printing papers) are a rapidly growing group predominantly made from chemical pulp. They are mainly uncoated, but increasingly coated, fine paper grades. The bulk of this paper is delivered in sheets. 

Corrugated boxboard is made by gluing sheets of linerboard to each side of a fluted sheet of the corrugating medium. Papers for packing may be laminated to polyethylene film or aluminum foil, or coated with waxes and hot-melt resins. The printing and bag- and box-making industries depend on the production of many mills that produce the several hundred grades of paper used in the United States, and each user may require special paper characteristics to match its process.
