Coated paper print density

The coat layer reduces the penetration of ink into the paper sheet Therefore, the ink does not spread as much and the print image is clear and sharp. The print density and the print gloss are enhanced, and the ink demand is reduced compared to uncoated papers. 

Apack s Canadian subsidiary is promoting use of its composite in hot- and cold-drink disposable cups to replace EPS. Apack Canada s cups are foamed to 0.2 g/cc density, reportedly providing better insulation than paper cups. A co-polyester coating prevents moisture penetration, permits quality printing, and provides enough insulation (in hot cups) to dispense with costly paper sleeves. The sprayed-on coating uses a blend of an Eastman co-polyester and a second biodegradable resin to get a balanced viscosity.

Ink is transferred to the test strip from an inked plate at an exactly specified plate pressure and a defined constant speed, and subsequently spHt three times by an offset rubber blanket-covered cyhnder. If the coating on the paper is unevenly distributed, the printed image may appear cloudy as a result. The inhomogeneity of the printed image is either ranked visually or with a mottle tester (which measures fluctuations in color density).
