There is an increasing interest in coupling gasification of biomass to the FT s mthesis. One example is the process diagram shown in Figure 2.37. The tar is removed by reforming before gas cleaning, water gas shift and CO2/H2S wash in a coal-based plant. 

An advanced froth flotation technique called columm flotation has been shown to be superior in obtaining a low-ash clean coal with high recovery of combustible. It has been proved effective in recovering ultra-fine (minus 74 microns) coal. A schematic diagram of the column flotation process is shown in Fig. 17.13.
