Co-conformational chang

Chemical, electrochemical and/or photochemical stimuli can be used, for instance, to effect co-conformational changes in molecular devices.

When a switchable rotaxane can give outputs (co-conformational changes) in response to inputs (external stimuli), the ability to give outputs in a certain rule on the basis of the inputs raises possibilities for a switchable rotaxane to perform logic calculations. 

In this sense it should be mentioned that (Ala)n is dissolved by hexafluorisopropanol (HFIP) without conformation change and that stretched fibers of (Leu) shrink in HFIP (20 °C) at about 60 % only by disorientation of (Leu)n molecules, because no conformation change occurs according to X-ray measurements 122,123). An interaction of the OH-group of the alcohol with the back-bone-CO-NH-groups is not very likely because, in this case, conformation changes should be observed. 

Leclerc, Ho, and co-workers have developed many sensing systems for different targets using cationic PT and exploiting the differences in emission and color between the extended conjugation form and the coiled form.
