Clean drug

For scientific reasons, it is always desirable to focus on one and only one thing in any given experiment. In psychopharmacology, this desideratum is expressed in so-called clean drugs that have one and only one action. 

Hoping to avoid such side effects as the sleep disruption and the occasional cardiac complications of the tricyclic antidepressants, and following the principle that clean drugs are theoretically preferable to dirty ones, the pharmaceutical industry has developed the selective serotonin reuptake blockers, a third generation of chemical agents to relieve depression. 

The design of more efficient CORMs requires that more fundamental data on the biological action of the CO and CORMs are obtained. These are two different questions. CO gas is a very clean drug free of metabolites, and after its action, CO is efficiently removed by Hb. CORMs are a different matter. Besides CO, they have a scaffold that may cause unwanted biological actions, and they produce metabolites, which can do the same on several different targets along... 

The clean drug is stir- baked as described under the method for stir-baking (Appendix IID, Chinese Pharmacopoeae) until it becomes pale yellow to dark yellow (stir- baked Baijiezi) or dark yellow to brown (stir-baked Huang] iezi) and pungent scented. 

In the food production and OTC (Over the Counter) Drug industries, like milk, soups, cough syrup, and juices, outside balanced seals are quite popular. Their design permits easy cleaning of the equipment without pump disassembly. These seals are prominent in the chemical processing industry because all metal components in the seal are located outside the fluid. This avoids problems of galvanic eorro.sion. 

The process of isolation finally adopted by the former authors consists in precipitating as reineckates the water-soluble bases contained in a methyl alcoholic extract of the curare. The mixed reineckates are further purified, by solution in acetone and precipitation with water as often as may be necessary. The product so cleaned represents the bulk of the biological activity of the crude drug the mother liquors may contain curine (p. 374), which indicates a menisperm as one of the components of such curares. The mixed reineckates are then fractionated chromato-graphically over alumina and the components isolated as chlorides by the use of silver sulphate and barium chloride in succession. This process has been modified in detail by Schmid and Karrer, who have also found that with their curare, the more soluble reineckate fraction includes less potent quaternary alkaloids. 

Drugs and metabolites can be extracted from cultures and urine by adding 2 drops of concentrated HCI to 1 ml of urine for a pH of 1-2. Extract with three 1-ml volumes of diethyl ether (top layer) or methylene chloride (bottom layer). Combine extractions and evaporate with clean, dry nitrogen. True. Even clean and unused needles and syringes can be dangerous in the wrong hands. A used needle and syringe can be especially dangerous as it may contain blood, bacteria, drugs or viruses.
