Selegiline Citalopram

LACK OF ADVERSE INTERACTION BETWEEN SELEGILINE AND CITALOPRAM OR BETWEEN SELEGILINE AND CABERGOLINE... 

Two parallel groups of healthy volunteers received 20 mg of citalopram (n = 12) or placebo (n = 6) once daily for 10 d in a randomized, double-blind fashion, followed by concomitant selegiline, 10 mg once daily for 4 d. The safety of this drug combination was assessed by measurements of blood pressure, heart rate, body temperature, and inquiries for adverse events. Blood samples were taken for the analysis of serum concentrations of selegiline, citalopram, and their metabolites. In addition, plasma was obtained to measure prolactin, epinephrine, norepinephrine, and 3,4-dihydroxyphanolglycol (DHPG), the urinary excretion of norepinephrine and 5-hydroindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA), the urinary metabolite of serotonin. 

After a 5-week washout, the 12 subjects who took citalopram in the first part of the study received 10 mg of selegiline once daily for 4 d to compare the pharmacokinetics of selegiline with and without concomitant citalopram. The safety analysis showed no significant differences in vital signs or the frequency of adverse events between the study groups. Plasma prolactin concentrations... 

Ajmaline, alprenolol, amiflamine, amphetamine, aprindine, captopril, chlorpheniramine, cinnarizine, citalopram, clomipramine, clozapine, codeine, desipramine, dolasteron, encainide, flecainide, fluoxetine, fluphenazine, haloperidol, hydrocordone, imipramine, loratidine, methoxyphenamine, 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine, metoprolol, mexiletine, (S)- and (i )-mianserin, nifedipine, olanzapine, omeprazole, oxycodone, perhexiline, phenformin, propaphenone, propranolol, remoxipride, ritonavir, saquinavir, selegiline, tamsulosin, timolol, tomoxetine, tramadol, trifluperidol, zolpidem... 

Neither citalopram nor selegiline appear to be affected by one another. Citalopram does not... 

In a double-blind randomised study 18 healthy subjects were given citalopram 20 mg or a placebo daily for 10 days followed by 4 days with concurrent selegiline 10 mg daily. There was no evidence of changes in vital signs or in the frequency of adverse events, but the bioavailability of the selegUine was slightly reduced by about 30% in the presence of citalopram. The authors of this report concluded that no clinically relevant interaction occurred between selegiline and citalopram. ...
