Chromatography controller

Like dissolves like is the basic concept for the selection of solvents in the eluent for liquid chromatography. Controlling the solubility of analytes is the key to success. If the selected solvent or mixture of solvents does not interfere with detection, it is a good eluent. The selection of a suitable solvent for low-wavelength absorption detection and post-column derivatization detection is important to obtain highly sensitive detection. The selection of a volatile solvent is the key for preparative-scale liquid chromatography and for mass spectro-metric detection. 

Preliminary experiments involved tests with a selection of the main classes of microorganisms. The polar fraction of Aleksinac shale bitumen was fractionated into a number of subfractions, using column chromatography, controlled with IR analysis of the eluates. By recombination of the 215 eluates according to structural similarity, 22 fractions were obtained for testing of physiological activity.

However, it recently became desirable to be able to synthesize porous silica nanoparticles, having both a narrow monodispersity and a well-defined pore size, for a wide range of applications catalysis, chromatography, controlled release, custom-designed pigments, and optical hosts.

Additional support for the above pathway was obtained by thin-layer chromatography. Controlled potential electrolysis of methionine was performed at a mvRuOx-coated electrode at pH 2. The Rj-values (the ratio of the distance moved by the solute to the distance that the solvent front moves on the solid phase) of the electrolysis prodnct and of standards were compared. The value for the electrolysis product agreed with that for methionine sulfone to two significant figures.
