Chlorofluorocarbons, potential substitutes

Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) were once commonly used as blowing agents. For years, pentane has become generally accepted as a blowing agent substitute for CFC. Pentane does not cause problems to the environment with pentane an ozone-depletion potential does not exist (Polke, 1996). [Pg.97]

There are three possible environmental media witbin which chemicals might accumulate water (e.g. atrazine), organic matter (e.g. DDT), and the atmosphere (e.g. chlorofluorocarbons, CFCs). An integrated approach to regulation must take into account the potential for substitution between these three media. That is, the societal object must endogenise the producer s choice of the characteristic of affinity as well as the choice of persistence. [Pg.239]
