2-chloro-8-fluoro

Refrigerant number of column one corresponds to the A.S.R.E. standard designation, which agrees with previous designations for the chloro-fluoro hydrocarbon type refrigerants. [Pg.332]

Most of the chloro-fluoro-refrigerants are nonflammable and nontoxic. Ammonia does not require explosion-proof equipment, hut it will hum and is toxic and somewhat difficult to handle. The hydrocarhons propylene, ethylene, and propane are explosive and somewhat toxic and must receive proper attention to safety, as in the design of a light hydrocarbon plant. [Pg.351]

When water comes in contact with the chloro-fluoro-refrigerants, an acid condition is established. This moisture may be in the form of water vapor coming in with air and is more likely if the suction side is lower than atmospheric pressure. These systems must be checked for leaks and moisture content. The descending order of reactivity with water is refrigerants 11, 12, 114, 22, and 113. Water vapor does not affect ammonia, except to modify the pressure-temperature relationship. When this becomes noticeable, the charge must be dried. Water must be purged from hydrocarbon systems, because emulsions or two-phase conditions may develop. [Pg.351]

There are four types of substituents in the example above (chloro, fluoro, ethyl, and methyl). They must be alphabetized (c, e, f, m) (we do not count di, tri, tetra, etc. as part of the alphabetization system). So the compound above is called... [Pg.100]

More conclusive evidence for the intermediacy of benzocyclopropenyl cations was obtained upon chloride/fluoride exchange of 22 with AgF in acetonitrile, which led to the chloro-fluoro derivative 278 and, ultimately, to the difluoro compound 279 in almost quantitative yield. Reaction of 22 with LiAlH AlClj afforded 2,5-diphenylbenzocyclopropene (264), while that with ethyl magnesium bromide lead to the diethyl derivative 280. Phenylmagnesium bromide and methylmagne-... [Pg.79]

Both lyotropic and thermotropic liquid-crystalline synthetic polymers have been widely studied. Aromatic polyamides constitute the most important class forming liquid-crystalline solutions the solvents are either powerfully protonating acids such as 100% sulphuric acid, chloro-, fluoro- or methane-sulphonic acid, and anhydrous hydrogen fluoride, or aprotic dipolar solvents such as dimethyl acetamide containing a small percentage, usually 2-5 %, of a salt such as lithium chloride or calcium chloride. Such solutions constitute a nematic phase within certain limits. Some criteria for formation of a nematic instead of an isotropic phase are ... [Pg.66]
