Chilled organic liquids

A removal efficiency of 95% is attainable with high inlet gas concentrations. However, the minimum concentration of organic compounds obtained in the outlet gas effluent is equal to the saturation concentration at the operation temperature. Chilled water, brine, refrigerant propylene, and liquid nitrogen can be used as coolants. 

To function properly, cell membranes must exist primarily in the liquid-crystalline state. Model studies using synthetic lipids have demonstrated that the presence of a (9Z)-olefinic fatty acyl side chain in a diacylphospholipid lowers its gel-liquid phase temperature (T ) by some 50° C relative to its fully saturated analog (4). The presence of the A fatty acyl side chain lowers the T even more and constitutes an important adaptation to chilling for plants. The regulation of the response to chilling temperatures has been studied in some detail in various organisms (4). 

Without process modification, the parts become chilled (possibly frosted) and the remaining water/other liquid becomes frozen. This situation is much more critical with water than with organic contamination because the heat of vaporization of water is 1000 BTU/lb and that of organic materials is 200 BTU/lb. ...
