Influenza vaccine children

A case of encephalitis in a previously healthy child who had received the HlNl 2009 influenza vaccine 25days prior was reported. The authors concluded that the ADEM in this child was most likely secondary to the influenza vaccine [32 ]. 

Relate the need for medications to a child s past experiences with the illness. For example, if child is being recalcitrant about receiving immunization against influenza, the pharmacist might use a probe such as, Do you remember the yucky flu you had last year Would you like to avoid that this year This approach can help the child remember previous bouts of the flu as an awful-feeling illness. The child then can understand the need to prevent the illness by receiving the flu vaccination. 

A 42-month-old child was brought to a hospital emergency room with fever and signs suggestive of bacterial meningitis. Two months earlier, she had been treated for otitis media with cefaclor and had developed an urticarial rash. There was no record of vaccination against Haemophilus influenzae type b. On hospitalization, the child u ai treated with ampicillin and chloramphenicol for 72 hours and then placed on chloramphenicol alone on the basis of the results of microbiology lahoratoiy tests.
