Other modifications of acid wool dyes have groups which react by nucleophilic substitution of basic groups ia proteia fibers (NH2 groups, etc). The iatroduction of Procion dyes by ICI ia 1956 was the most important development ia the field of technological azo dye chemistry. Chemically, many of the reactive dyes are prepared from the group of the anionic monoazo dyes (see Dyes, reactive). [Pg.436]

The chemical resistance of a plastics material is as good as its weakest point. If it is intended that a plastics material is to be used in the presence of a certain chemical then each ingredient must be unaffected by the chemical. In the case of a polymer molecule, its chemical reactivity will be determined by the nature of chemical groups present. However, by its very nature there are aspects of chemical reactivity which find no parallel in the chemistry of small molecules and these will be considered in due course. [Pg.95]

Fullerene chemistry leading to novel fullerene-like molecules with new chemical groups that are radially attached has become a very active research field, largely because of the uniqueness of the Cgo molecule and the variety of chemical reactions that appear to be possible [30, 31]. Many new fullerene-based molecules have already been synthesized and characterized chemically,... [Pg.38]

Glycolysis is the most promising approach for the chemical recycling of polyurethanes.1 The chemistry of PUR depolymerization is complicated by the presence of other chemical groups in the polymer, such as ureas, allophanates, and biurets. [Pg.532]

Dr. Comyns was one of the founders of the Applied Solid State Chemistry Group of the Royal Society of Chemistry. He has been Chairman of the Industrial Inorganic Chemicals Group of the Royal Society of Chemistry and Chairman of the Liverpool Section of the Society of Chemical Industry. [Pg.4]

When addressing problems in computational chemistry, the choice of computational scheme depends on the applicability of the method (i.e. the types of atoms and/or molecules, and the type of property, that can be treated satisfactorily) and the size of the system to be investigated. In biochemical applications the method of choice - if we are interested in the dynamics and effects of temperature on an entire protein with, say, 10,000 atoms - will be to run a classical molecular dynamics (MD) simulation. The key problem then becomes that of choosing a relevant force field in which the different atomic interactions are described. If, on the other hand, we are interested in electronic and/or spectroscopic properties or explicit bond breaking and bond formation in an enzymatic active site, we must resort to a quantum chemical methodology in which electrons are treated explicitly. These phenomena are usually highly localized, and thus only involve a small number of chemical groups compared with the complete macromolecule. [Pg.113]

The application of solid compounds with cluster units as sources for new molecular compounds, as well as for new polymers opens up an attractive field in chemistry. In view of the wealth of binary and ternary solid compounds, there is no end in sight. The wide range of materials should encourage many chemical groups to work much more in this direction. Especially fascinating is the possibility to form new modifications of the elements which as metastable systems could also have interesting chemical and physical properties. [Pg.79]

The value of the epoxy resins lies in their reactivity with a variety of chemical groups. This enhanced reactivity also means that the surface chemistry of the reinforcement which the epoxies are cured against, can alter the local structure in the interphase regionJl). The most common reinforcement surfaces cured in contact with the epoxies are carbon/graphite fibers, glass fibers, aramid fibers and metal oxides. The surface chemistry of these reinforcement surfaces is quite diverse and in many cases can be the reason for alteration of the interphase epoxy structure as compared to the bulk. [Pg.8]
