Chemical Problems nanotechnology

This chapter considers policy on a specific area of technology synthetic chemicals. Synthetic chemicals have been manufactured on a large scale for at least 50 years. Unlike genetic engineering and nanotechnology, they are not considered to be new , but despite the decades of production and use there is still a great deal that we do not know about their effects. Time and again novel synthetic chemicals have been found to cause problems that were not expected.

Fullerenes and their chemical compounds are perspective materials for application in nanotechnology, spintronics and single-electronics [1], Thus, the search of ways of high-speed, contactless, selective control of electron-optical properties of fullerene-based materials is actual problem. It is well known, that weak magnetic field (MF) with induction B < IT effectively influences electron-optical properties of some organic compounds (for instance, anthracene, tetracene, etc.) [2]. 

We have given examples of our recent calculations on two problems in nanotechnology. The first is in the calculation oi I-V curves of molecules between metal surfaces. This is an area where chemistry and physics meet, and the problem is being solved by merging typical quantum chemical calculations with Green s function approaches.
