Grammar chemical

This is a chemical grammar, the productions corresponding to reactions. The language is the set of all 1-alkanols, 1-alkyImagnesium bromides and 1-bromoalkanes. 

For students to make sense of the basic grammar of chemical equations they need to appreciate the concept of the chemical reaction. This, in turn, requires an understanding of the notion of chemical snbstance. Although these are basic concepts in chemistry, they are known to present difficulties to many learners. 

Many researchers have recognized the importance of having an unambiguous grammar for chemical notation, but they have mainly applied WLN [8] to on-line compound search [9] and structural summary (identification of common structural features) [10]. Johns and Clare point out that it is a linguistic rather than merely a symbolic notation. This means that the symbols are represented and manipulated in well defined structures. This section relies on the unambiguousness of WLN to recognize parent molecules while Section 5 relies on the WLN rules to actually manipulate symbol structures. 

The Literary and Philosophical Society offered him the use of a downstairs room for teaching and experimentation, and Dalton accepted. Soon he was giving lessons six days a week in mathematics, calligraphy, grammar, chemistry, and physics. He supplemented the income from this by lecturing and doing chemical analyses for local manufacturers. He earned enough to live in reasonable comfort and to buy the scientific equipment he needed. 

The first indication of the existence of thallium was noted by Sir William Crookes. Sir William was bom on June 17, 1832, and was educated in the grammar school at Chippenham. At the age of sixteen years he entered the Royal College of Chemistry, where A. W. von Hofmann was serving as the first professor yet in spite of the latter s inspiring influence, he never cared for organic chemistry. His first paper entitled On the Selenocyanides was published when he was nineteen years of age. In 1859 he started the publication of Chemical News, and until 1906 he was the sole editor of that important journal (14).

By 1938, Lunam had been promoted to Lecturer in Chemistry. In 1942, she married Herbert Allan Edge of the Research and Development Department, Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) Agricultural Division, Billingham. She was noted as still being Lecturer at Constantine College in 1948, but later became Head of the Chemistry Department at Kirby Grammar School.
