2 Chart your actual company organization structure 

Organizational diagrams are often subject to undue political influence and seldom extend down to the rank-and-file employees. 

Make the effort. Prepare a comprehensive organizational diagram that includes the process drivers, at least for those divisions which actively participate in your acquisitions, operations, and supply endeavors - your performance process. Use large paper formats for the rendering. The META plan sheets have proven useful. It is important that you go out of your way to include all employees. 

Do not hesitate to include the diverse reporting paths and unofficial channels that actually exist. At the latest once you are finished you will recognize the hierarchy that your enterprise actually puts up with.
