Channel performance

Whereas considerable progress has been made towards achieving acceptable channel performance (power and enthalpy extraction) and durabiUty, as of this writing performance and durabiUty have not been demonstrated simultaneously. A larger scale demonstration plant has been proposed in the United States by the MHD Development Corp. (112). [Pg.433]

In this view, the 5. lividans K+ channel is a supramolecular structure in which selection and transport of K+is effected by cooperative interactions of protein, PHB and polyP. This hypothetical mechanism does not address and may not satisfy the wealth of experimental data acquired for this and other potassium channels. However, the presence in KcsA of these proven facilitators of ion selection and transport should be taken into account when resolving the manner in which the channel performs these tasks. [Pg.90]

The influence of heat losses through the reactor wall have been studied [5,23]. Radial temperature gradients inside the monolith material can often be neglected, because the operation is usually adiabatic. This means that modeling of one single channel is adequate. Any nonuniform flow distribution may be incorporated into a reactor model by integration of the single channel performance over the whole cross section of the reactor. [Pg.213]

Most centrifugal microfluidic systems are networks of vessels and interconnecting channels performing assays, chemical synthesis, or preparative protocols at the downstream end. To provide quantitative results, a metering of the volumes is required. However, an accurate and precise metering is not only essential for the chemistry, but it is also of key relevance for the centrifugal flow control via the radial coordinates r <, r > and r of the volume within the channel network (see for instance Eqs. 7, 9,11, and 13). [Pg.384]

The purpose of the 1-g inverted vertical outflow tests was fourfold. First these tests are required to measure the leading order hydrostatic pressure loss. Second, experiments can be used to examine the factors that affect LAD channel performance in a thermally representative, full-scale, dynamic outflow environment. Third, outflow data can be used to compare against the simplified 1D model predictions to assess the accuracy of the model. Finally, tests here will quantify the efficiency of a TVS heat exchanger on dynamic LAD performance. [Pg.235]

The change in performance of both channels is likely due to the differential contractions and expansions of the screen wires after being exposed to multiple thermal cycles during LH2 testing. The reduction in performance could also be due to defects at the Ni/SS interface at the screen/plate interface. It is fairly certain that degradation in bubble point occurred after LH2 tests, and not before, since both channels performed relatively similar at similar LH2 test conditions as will be shown, and because experimental performance compared well with model predictions. [Pg.248]

Thermodynamic Vent System Cooled 325 x 2300 Channel Performance Figure 9.26 plots the exposed screen length for the TVS cooled 325 x 2300 chtinnel as a function of tank liquid temperature and LAD outflow rate, and Table 9.10 summarizes TVS performance. For all points shown in Figure 9.26, the TVS was engaged, and the flow rate through the TVS coil was approximately the same, 1.14 g/s. However the amoimt of... [Pg.252]

Finally, to examine the effect of channel dimensions and demand flow rate on channel performance in microgravity. Figure 14.9 plots the velocity profile as a function of various channel geometries and flow rates. Channel dimensions and corresponding exit Re numbers are shown on the right. It is noticeable that at a smaller height and width, the velocity... [Pg.354]

Tier I-Screening Method—Aroclors are multi-peak chemical mixtures that have very unique identification patterns. All Aroclors shall be run individually or in mixtures at 0.1 ug/mL on each channel performing screening to produce reference patterns. It is important to note that some of these patterns have the same constituents and that some Aroclors are quantitated using the same peaks (such as Aroclors 1016 and 1232 or 1242). When screening for Aroclors, a visual... [Pg.1042]

For channel performance evaluation, the computer calculates and displays mean values, statistical errors and error distributions of signals originating from nuclear instrumentation channels. In case the standard deviation error of a particular signal exceeds the reference error by a fixed margin, an alarm is generated indicating some malfunction in the channel performance. [Pg.80]

Another function of interest for monitoring the nuclear channel performance is the signal probability distribution function [7]. If the full-width-half-maximum of the probability distribution curve exceeds 3a, or if the curve has large tails, it is then an indication of increased channel noise. The probability distribution function can also be used to differentiate systematic errors from random errors. For unbiased channel output (no systematic error), the peak of the probability curve would occur at the signal mean value. Any persistent deviation of the peak from the mean value would indicate a positive or negative systematic fault in the channel behavior. [Pg.88]
