Channel construction

Open-Channel Flow Measurement Open-channel flow measurements are usually based on measurement of liquid level in a flow channel constructed of a specified geometry. The two most common flow channels used are weirs and flumes. See Spitzer (2005, op. cit.). [Pg.14]

Conductance measurements showed that the nicotinic receptors contain channels permeable to Na+ and other cations and that they are acetylcholine-gated ion channels. Construction of a three-dimensional image from electron micrographs at various angles of tilt shows a tube with approximate pentagonal symmetry and a narrow channel through the center (Fig. 30-23).622 624 636 Acetylcholine binds to sites on the two a subunits 3 nm away from the ion channel. [Pg.1785]

Besides, large-scale engineering works, including deepening of the channels, construction of water diversion and distribution structures, construction of embankments, etc., are possible in the future within the deltas. [Pg.131]

FlFFF separations are usually performed in thin channels constructed with flat beds. Figure 4 shows a schematic of a symmetrical channel (19). In this design, the force field is created by flowing a liquid across the channel perpendicular to the normal flow down the channel. This flowing is accomplished by using semipermeable membranes as both channel walls—solvent can flow through the membranes, but particles are retained within the channel for the separation. The remainder of the apparatus is quite similar to that previously described for SdFFF. Sample loading and detection is performed in the same manner. [Pg.284]

MEAs have an added advantage in that they are compatible with and can be incorporated into many other methods discussed in this chapter to address more complex questions. For example, microfluidic channels constructed around an MEA would allow the electrical activity of cells or whole tissue sections to be recorded or stimulated while the cells are exposed to unique chemical, mechanical, or thermal environments. Cells could be exposed to chemical gradients, regulated shear forces, or disparate fluidic environments for many days while under constant elecU ical monitoring or stimulation. [Pg.997]

Diversion Channels. Construction of diversionary channels is a second method for isolating water-soluble spills. As with the pumping method, dams are set above and below the spill. A channel is constructed, allowing clean water to move around the contaminated area while the spill is being treated. Both of these procedures are limited to fairly small, low-volume waterways. The practicality of these methods is also highly dependent on the spill location, the availability of equipment, and the speed with which they can be implemented. [Pg.289]

Channels Channels are direct named entities. Data channels are like queue. A Little JIL channel is defined as a first in first out queue. The channel construct can be used as a vehicle to coordinate and synchronize steps executing in parallel. Channels can specify steps for additional artifact of same type. [Pg.976]

Formation of one-dimensional channels with no rotation was observed in the complexes between per-ethylated pillar[5]arene 6.3 and l,4-his(imidazol-l-yl)butane (Figure 6.13d). The assembly of host-guest complexes of 5-bromovaleronitrile and a non-symmetrical pillar[5]arene with five methyls on one side and five n-pentyls on the other (6.22) also formed onedimensional channels (Figure 6.13e). The application incorporating the alignment of these guest molecules in the one-dimensional channels constructed from pillar[5]arenes is a topic for future investigation. [Pg.146]

With the exception of the mesoporous MOF-74 variants, there are also other examples with large ID channels constructed from infinite rod-shaped building blocks. In 2007, Qiu and coworkers reported a mesoMOF, JUC-48, with ID hexagonal channels of 24.5 X 27.9 JUC-48 was synthesized from Cd salts and biphenyl-4,4 -dicarboxylate (BPDC) in DMF by slow diffusion with trie thy lamine. Similar to MOF-74, the Cd centers are linked together by carboxylates to form ID infinite chain, which are interconnected by BPDC ligands to generate a 3D non-interpenetrating structure. [Pg.43]
