Scheme 12. First, quantitative addition of to-furan functionalized PIB (A ), obtained from a simple reaction between living PIB and 2-BusSnFu, to living PIB (A) could be achieved in Hex/CH2Cl2 (40/60 v/v) at -80 °C in conjunction with TiCl4. The resulting living coupled PIB-Fu+-PIB was successfully employed for the subsequent chain ramification polymerization of MeVE. This technique has its unique ability to control A and A block length independently. Pure poly(IB-s-IB -s-MeVE) three-arm star-block copolymer was obtained upon purification of the crude product by column chromatography [87]. Scheme 12. Well preserved specimens show structural details in their cell wall and sheath. Others are present in typical stages of reproduction or growth. Individuals are united in clusters, chains, ramifications or other definable arrangements. [Pg.33]

As a proof of the concept, an amphiphilic A2B2 star-block copolymer (A = PIB and B = PMeVE) has been prepared by the living coupling reaction of living PIB followed by the chain ramification polymerization of MeVE at the junction of the living coupled PIB as shown in Scheme 26.5 [136]. [Pg.802]

In the reaction consisting on the carbocation chaige transfer to the carbon atom located in the main chain of another polymer molecule (grafting) a chain ramification takes place. [Pg.285]

The octane numbers for olefins, as for paraffins, depends on the length and ramification of their chains. Olefin RONs are generally higher than those for paraffins having the same carbon skeleton. The displacement of the... [Pg.200]

Formaldehyde homopolymer is composed exclusively of repeating oxymethylene units and is described by the term poly oxymethylene (POM) [9002-81-7]. Commercially significant copolymers, for example [95327-43-8] have a minor fraction (typically less than 5 mol %) of alkyUdene or other units, derived from cycHc ethers or cycHc formals, distributed along the polymer chain. The occasional break in the oxymethylene sequences has significant ramifications for polymer stabilization. [Pg.56]

In contrast to ionic chain polymerizations, free radical polymerizations offer a facile route to copolymers ([9] p. 459). The ability of monomers to undergo copolymerization is described by the reactivity ratios, which have been tabulated for many monomer systems for a tabulation of reactivity ratios, see Section 11/154 in Brandrup and Immergut [14]. These tabulations must be used with care, however, as reactivity ratios are not always calculated in an optimum manner [15]. Systems in which one reactivity ratio is much greater than one (1) and the other is much less than one indicate poor copolymerization. Such systems form a mixture of homopolymers rather than a copolymer. Uncontrolled phase separation may take place, and mechanical properties can suffer. An important ramification of the ease of forming copolymers will be discussed in Section 3.1. [Pg.827]

Bamford43,59 63 has proposed a general treatment for solving polymerization kinetics with chain length dependent kt and considered in some detail the ramifications with respect to molecular weight distributions and the kinetics of chain transfer, retardation, etc. [Pg.248]

The first unequivocal proof of feasibility of homogeneous polymerization free of termination and chain-transfer was reported in 1956, and the concept of living polymers and its ramifications were fully developed in those publications 2). Although the initial work dealt with anionic polymerization of styrene and the dienes, the underlying ideas were soon applied by other workers to a great variety of polymeric systems, as shown by the brief review of some of those developed recently. [Pg.89]

Armed with the above insight, we can examine the pharmacological ramifications of esterifying hydrocortisone. In Fig. 5 the ability of hydrocortisone esters to suppress inflammation induced by tetra-hydrofurfural alcohol, which acts simultaneously as irritant and vehicle, is shown as a function of the alkyl chain length of the esters [56]. An optimum chain in effect is seen at an alkyl chain length of six (hexanoate),... [Pg.228]

A condition of P = 2 and B = S corresponds to simple closed contours without ramifications, for example, polyangles. A condition IKS (i.e., p < 2) corresponds to separate fragments of chains formed from sites and bonds. A condition of B>S is characteristic of a 3D case ( , >2). [Pg.303]

The volatility of the alkoxides increases, and their molecular complexity decreases, with increased ramification of the alkyl chains (Tables 7 and 8). Variations observed in the degree of association in different solvents were assigned to the donor capacity of the solvent rather than to differences in dielectric constants.154,155 The mean dissociation energies of the M—OR bonds... [Pg.601]

An unusual requirement with important legal ramifications is that of possession. An unbroken chain of identifiable possession (i.e., chain of custody) must be maintained. All transfers are marked on the samples as to time and date of collection, arrival at the laboratory, and all transfers must be signed by both parties. The security and handling of samples during time of possession must be verifiable as a matter of law. [Pg.447]

PET may take place between donor and acceptor molecules located in heterogeneous or solid environments (Fig. 3), or linked together by a flexible chain or rigid spacer group (Fig. 4). Appropriate examples of these systems and their theoretical and practical ramifications will be presented in this paper. [Pg.26]
