For smooth operation of the centrifuge, the rotor must be properly balanced. The weight of racks, tubes, and their contents on opposite sides of a rotor should not differ by more than 1% or by an acceptable limit established by the manufacturer. The smaller the difference in weight is, the smoother the centrifugation. Before centrifuging any laboratory specimens, pairs of adapters and specimen tubes should be placed on opposite pans of a balance, and the tubes rearranged so that tire weights are equal and the placement of tubes is symmetrical.
