Centerline support

Centerline supported pump casings shall be used for horizontal pumps. 

A turbine flowmeter consists of a straight flow tube containing a turbine which is free to rotate on a shaft supported by one or more bearings and located on the centerline of the tube. Means are provided for magnetic detection of the rotational speed, which is proportional to the volumetric flow rate. Its use is generally restric ted to clean, noncorrosive fluids. Additional information on construction, operation, range, and accuracy can be obtained from Holzbock (Instruments for Measurement and Control, 2d ed., Reinhold, New York, 1962, pp. 155-162). Static techniques to determine unbalance can be performed by setting a rotor on a set of frictionless supports the heavy point of the rotor will have a tendency to roll down. Noting the location of this point, the resultant unbalance force can be found, and the rotor can be statically balanced. Static balancing makes the center of gravity of the rotor approach the centerline of two end supports.

The bearing-support structure is often inadequate for proper shaft support because of its span and stiffness. As a result, most fans tend to operate with a shaft that deflects from its true centerline. Typically, this deflection results in a vibration frequency at the second (2x) or third (3x) harmonic of shaft speed. 

The horizontal plot seems to indicate that the shaft is being severely deflected from its tme centerline. In addition, the plot suggests that the deflection is outboard (i.e., toward the rotor) from the two blower-support bearings. This outboard deflection eliminates misalignment between the motor and blower as a possible source of the deflection. We must now determine what could cause the rotor to be deflected and why only in the horizontal direction. 

C = eenter of the pnmp. For pump types OF12 and BB2 with two support pedestals, the eenter is defined by the intersection of the pump shaft centerline and a vertical plane passing through the center of the two pedestals (see Figures 2.5 and 2.6). For pump types BBl, BB3, BB4 and BB5 with four support pedestals, the center is defined by the intersection of the pump shaft centerline and a vertical plane passing midway between the four pedestals (see Figure 2-4). 

In order to produce supported samples for STM or FEM study, clusters formed on the centerline of the condensation reactor are extracted through a 1 mm diameter capillary into a vacuum chamber typically kept at 10-5 Torr. The resulting supersonic free jet flow is collimated to form a molecular beam of metal clusters, uncondensed metal atoms and inert gas atoms. 

In the mechanistic studies conducted by Horn et al.,64 methane CPO reactions were run under as close to industrial conditions as possible. A high-resolution (=300/rm) spatial profiling technique was developed to measure the temperature and species profiles along the centerline of the catalyst bed. The unprecedented high-resolution data make it possible to accurately speculate reactions occurring along the catalyst bed (10mm) in a very short contact time.
