Cellulose as feedstock

Spectroscopic evidence shows that the chloroform soluble fraction is of both lignin and cellulose origin. In addition, the use of either lignin or cellulose as feedstock produce significant amounts of this fraction (ether-insoluble/chloroform-soluble) The ratio of syringyl and guaiacyl contributions to this fraction can be estimated from the C-13 nmr spectra. This ratio is 4 1 for heart-wood, sapwood and lignin oils. [Pg.101]
