Celestial bodies/influences

Examples of pseudoscience abound. Astrology is an ancient belief system that supposes there is a mystical correspondence between individuals and the universe—that human affairs are so special that they are influenced by the positions and movements of planets and other celestial bodies. When astrologers use up-to-date astronomical information and computers that chart the movements of heavenly bodies, they are operating in the realm of science. 

Indeed, we see in the world only water, more or less condensed. Between the heavens and the earth, all is smoke, mist, vapors, pressed from the center, the interior of the earth, and elevated above its circumference in the part which we call air. The weakness of the organs of our senses does not permit us to see the subtle vapors, or emanations of celestial bodies, which we call influences, and which mingle with the vapors sublimating from sub-lunar bodies. The eyes of the mind must aid the weakness of the eyes of the body. 

Philosophers give the name of spirits, or spiritual natures, not only to immaterial beings, who can be known only by the intellect, such as angels and demons, but also to those which, although material, cannot be perceived by the senses because of their great tenuity. Pure air, or Ether, is of this nature, as are the influences of celestial bodies, Innate Fire, seminal, vital, vegetable spirits, etc. They are the ministers of Nature, who seems to act upon Matter only by means of them. 

The exact path and position of an object in space can be determined by taking into account seven orbital elements. These elements deal with the mathematical relationships between the two bodies. To determine the orbit of a celestial body, it must be observed and precise measurements taken at least three times. However, at least 20 precise observations, covering at least one full revolution, are needed for accurate orbital elements to be determined. If two bodies that move in elliptical orbits around their common center of mass (for example, the Sun and Jupiter) were alone in an otherwise empty universe, we would expect that their orbits would remain constant. However, the solar system consists of the Sun, eight major planets, and an enormous number of much smaller bodies all orbiting around the solar system s center of mass. The masses of these objects all influence the orbits of each other in small and large ways. 

Although Mars has a thin atmosphere we traditionally consider this celestial body as atmosphereless, implying that optical characteristics of the Martian surface can be retrieved by removing the atmosphere influence. 

Mathematical modeling of the optical information transmission process into BCS needs to take into account the environmental influence, where artificial and natural emission is spread. The main natural optical clutters, in this case, are celestial bodies. The Earth and its surface, atmosphere. 

The Heaven doth by the assistance of his Stars, communicate unto her heavenly, spiritual and invisible virtue, which descends first unto the Air, where it beginneth to assume a kinde of body the Air sends it into the Water or the Earth, where this celestial virtue and influence beginneth to operate more materially, and associate it self to matter, thereby to frame a body to it self by means of those various natural fermentations which are the cause of alteration in sublunary things. 

In departing from the sun light strikes the dense bodies, the celestial as well as the terrestrial it places their faculties in movement, carries them with it, reflects them and diffuses them in the upper Air as well as in the lower. Air having a disposition to mix with the Water and the Earth, becomes the vehicle of these faculties, and communicates them to the bodies which are formed of them, or which are by analogy most susceptible of them. These are the faculties which are called influences. Many natural philosophers deny their existence, because they do not know them. 

Mechanics as used in physics is traditionally the study of the behavior of bodies under the action of forces like, e.g. gravity (celestial mechanics). Molecules are made of nuclei and electrons, and quantum chemistry deals, fundamentally, with the motion of electrons under the influence of the electromagnetic force exerted by nuclear charges. An understanding of the behavior of electrons in molecules, and thus of the structures and reactions of molecules, rests on quantum mechanics and in particular on that adornment of quantum chemistry, the Schrodinger equation. In 1657 Benjamin Worsley sent Samuel Hartlib a series of letters dealing with astrology. Those of October refer to a Physico-Astrological Letter , which is now in the Hartlib Papers. The letter is in fact the Latin version of the letter published in Robert Boyle s posthumous General History of the Air (1692). In Worsley s astrological letter we read that celestial influences affect spirits contained in the human body, and in all natural bodies, as they are all of the same nature ... 

The sun and planets (to say nothing of the fixed stars) may have influence here below distinct from their heat and light. On which supposition it seems not absurd to me to suspect, that the subtil, but corporeal, emanations even of these bodies may (sometimes at least) reach our air, and mingle with those of our globe in that great receptacle or rendevous of celestial and terrestrial effluviums, the atmosphere." ...
