Catalytic dehydrogenation continuous processes

The continuous increase in world consumption of MTBE has created a strong incentive to increase the production of isobutylene. Isobutylene can be produced by catalytic dehydrogenation of isobutane. However, the largest production of C4 olefins comes from the thermal cracking processes for the manufacture of ethylene which generate as by-products C4 mixtures containing C4 olefins and C4 alkanes plus butadiene. Isobutylene is also a product of fluid bed catalytic cracking units. [Pg.506]

Several commercial processes have been developed for the catalytic dehydrogenation of propane to propylene as presented in Table 4. Of the seven commercial propane dehydrogenation plants in operation, six use UOP s Oleflex continuous moving-bed process. The other uses ABB Lummus Catofin cyclic multiple-reactor system. Other processes include Krupp Uhde s STAR process, as well as technologies from Linde and Snamprogetti. ... [Pg.2464]

Catadiene [Catalytic butadiene] Also spelled Catadien. A version of the Houdry process for converting mixtures of butane isomers into butadiene by dehydrogenation over an alumina/chromia catalyst. Another version converts propane to propylene. Rapid coking of the catalyst necessitates use of several reactors in parallel, so that reactivation can be carried out continuously. Developed by Houdiy and first operated at El Segundo, CA, in 1944. By 1993, 20 plants had been built worldwide. Now licensed by ABB Lummus Crest. [Pg.53]

Dehydrogenation of 3-kelo steroids. The dehydrogenation of 3-keto steroids to l,4-diene-3-ones with benzeneseleninic anhydride (8, 31) can be carried out in comparable yield by use of a process in which the benzeneseleninic anhydride is used in catalytic amounts and is continuously regenerated from diphenyl diselenide by oxidation with iodylbenzene. In practice, m-iodylbenzoic acid is a more convenient reagent, since m-iodobenzoic acid is easily recovered. 12-Keto and 12-hydroxy steroids arc oxidized by the catalytic system to A9(1 - -keto steroids in high yield. In fact, methyl desoxycholate (1) can be oxidized in this way directly to the trienedione 2 in 64% yield.1... [Pg.480]
