Cementation is the process of recovery of metals from dilute aqueous solution by reductive precipitation using another metal with a more negative electrode potential, e.g., Cu + Fe° Cu° + Fe. The product, in this case cement copper, is relatively impure because of iron contamination. However, cementation can be used in conjunction with a solvent extraction flow sheet to remove small amounts of a metallic impurity, for example, removal of copper from a nickel solution by cementation with nickel powder. Here the dissolved nickel conveniently augments the nickel already in solution. [Pg.457]

Although aluminum and zinc are soft, ductile metals (unlike chromium), the intermetaUic compounds formed with iron, are brittle and hard in all cases. Cementation coatings are therefore particularly useful where a moderate degree of abrasion resistance is required. [Pg.243]

The technology of concrete soaking with monomeric substance and subsequent m situ" polymerization is relatively new. According to Worn [171], it was initiated by Steinberg in 1968. Beside of the polymer impregnated concretes, there are also the polymer concretes (resin concretes) without cement and the polymer-eement concretes in the latter case cement is mixed with monomer and water to produce the concrete mixture . In one case, cement hardening prevented re-inser-tion of the stylet of the needle. After the needle was extracted, a paravertebral cement leak was detected. Two days later, the cement fragment was extracted percutaneously. The stylet should be repositioned before removal of the needle whenever possible in all cases.
