Carbonylation transmetallation

Pd(II) salts promote the carbonylation of organomercury compounds. Reaction of phenylmercury chloride and PdCh under CO pressure affords benzophenone (429)[387]. Both esters and ketones are obtained by the carbonylation of furylmercury(Il) chloride in alcohol[388]. Although the yields are not satisfactory, esters are obtained by the carbonylation of aryl- and alkylmercuryfll) chlorides[389,390]. One-pot catalytic carbonylation of thiophene, furan, and pyrrole (430) takes place at the 2-position via mercuration and transmetallation by the use of PdCb, Hg(N03), and CuCl2[391]. [Pg.83]

Organotelluriumfll and IV) compounds undergo transmetallation with Pd(II)[414], The carbonylation of the alkenylphenyltellurium(II) 459 gives the a,/3-Unsaturated ester 460 and benzoate, 460 being the main product[415], Reductive coupling of diaryl, dialkyl, and aryl alkyltellurides 461 to give 462 proceeds by treatment with Pd(OAc)2[416,417],... [Pg.87]

Formation of ketones. Ketones can be prepared by the carbonylation of halides and pseudo-halides in the presence of various organometallic compounds of Zn, B, Al, Sn, Si, and Hg, and other carbon nucleophiles, which attack acylpalladium intermediates (transmetallation and reductive elimination). [Pg.200]

The carbonylation of aryl iodides in the presence of alkyl iodides and Zn Cu couple affords aryl alkyl ketones via the formation of alkylzinc species from alkyl iodides followed by transmetallation and reductive elimination[380]. The Pd-catalyzed carbonylation of the diaryliodonium salts 516 under mild conditions in the presence of Zn affords ketones 517 via phenylzinc. The a-diketone 518 is formed as a byproduct[381],... [Pg.200]

Organotin compounds such as aryl-, alkenyl-, and alkynylstannanes are useful for the ketone synthesis by transmetallation of acylpalladium 529 and reductive elimination of 530 as shown[389-393]. Acetophenone (531) is obtained by the carbonylation of iodobenzene with Me4Sn. Diaryl ketones... [Pg.201]

Some organosilicon compounds undergo transmetallation. The allylic cyanide 461 was prepared by the reaction of an allylic carbonate with trimethylsi-lyl cyanide[298]. The oriho esters and acetals of the o. d-unsaturated carbonyl compounds 462 undergo cyanation with trimefhylsilyl cyanide[95]. [Pg.351]

Although analogous to the direct coupling reaction, the catalytic cycle for the carbonylative coupling reaction is distinguished by an insertion of carbon monoxide into the C-Pd bond of complex A (see A—>B, Scheme 31). The transmetalation step-then gives trans complex C which isomerizes to the cis complex D. The ketone product E is revealed after reductive elimination. [Pg.593]

Lewis acids, particularly the boron trifluroride diethyl ether complex, are used to promote the reaction between allyl(trialkyl)- and allyl(triaryl)stannanes and aldehydes and ketones52-54. The mechanism of these Lewis acid promoted reactions may involve coordination of the Lewis acid to the carbonyl compound so increasing its reactivity towards nucleophilic attack, or in situ transmetalation of the allyl(trialkyl)stannane by the Lewis acid to generate a more reactive allylmetal reagent. Which pathway operates in any particular case depends on the order of mixing of the reagents, the Lewis acid, temperature, solvent etc.55- 58. [Pg.366]

There is evidence to suggest that the unexpected anti selectivity found in several cases of Lewis acid catalyzed carbonyl additions can be explained by transmetalation of 2-butenylstannanes by titanium(IV) chloride (Sections 1.3.3.3.8.2.3. and 1.3.3.3.6.1.3.) to form the reactive allyltri-chlorotitanium46-49. [Pg.405]

Palladium catalyzes allylation of carbonyl compounds with various ally lie compounds using In-InCl3 in aqueous media (Eq. 8.66).158 Various allylic compounds can be effectively applied via the formation of TT-allylpalladium(II) intermediates and their transmetalation with indium in the presence of indium trichloride in aqueous media. [Pg.250]

In some cases the submitters have noticed that when the transmetalation mixture was allowed to stir for 15 min or more prior to addition of the carbonyl compound, the expected addition product was contaminated with material resulting from addition of butylithium. [Pg.72]

Tin compounds can be produced by the Nalco-type reactions39 as well as by Cd and Zn mediated methods42,43. The use of organotin compounds in electrodically induced transmetallations has also been described in a study in which Grignard-type allylation of carbonyl compounds has been carried out by electrochemically recycled allyltin reagents44. [Pg.672]

Besides rhodium catalysts, palladium complex also can catalyze the addition of aryltrialkoxysilanes to a,(3-unsaturated carbonyl compounds (ketones, aldehydes) and nitroalkenes (Scheme 60).146 The addition of equimolar amounts of SbCl3 and tetrabutylammonium fluoride (TBAF) was necessary for this reaction to proceed smoothly. The arylpalladium complex, generated by the transmetallation from a putative hypercoordinate silicon compound, was considered to be the catalytically active species. [Pg.395]

Carreira and Kruger reported facile transmetallation of silicon enolates to other soft metal enolates including Gu derivatives.499 They reasoned that the use of soft metal fluoride complexes enabled silyl metal transmetallation with catalytic use of a soft metal source. The concept is illustrated in Scheme 103. Normal Lewis acid-catalyzed reactions of silicon enolates with aldehydes proceed via activation of aldehydes by carbonyl oxygen coordination to Lewis acids, as shown in the upper equation of Scheme 103. A key step for catalytic turnover is the desilyation of 233 by the... [Pg.474]

Covalently bonded chiral auxiliaries readily induce high stereoselectivity for propionate enolates, while the case of acetate enolates has proved to be difficult. Alkylation of carbonyl compound with a novel cyclopentadienyl titanium carbohydrate complex has been found to give high stereoselectivity,44 and a variety of ft-hydroxyl carboxylic acids are accessible with 90-95% optical yields. This compound was also tested in enantioselective aldol reactions. Transmetalation of the relatively stable lithium enolate of t-butyl acetate with chloro(cyclopentadienyl)-bis(l,2 5,6-di-<9-isopropylidene-a-D-glucofuranose-3-0-yl)titanate provided the titanium enolate 66. Reaction of 66 with aldehydes gave -hydroxy esters in high ee (Scheme 3-23). [Pg.155]

The addition of carbonyl compounds towards lithiated 1-siloxy-substituted allenes does not proceed in the manner described above for alkoxyallenes. Tius and co-work-ers found that treatment of 1-siloxy-substituted allene 67 with tert-butyllithium and subsequent addition of aldehydes or ketones led to the formation of ,/i-unsaturated acyl silanes 70 (Scheme 8.19) [66]. This simple and convenient method starts with the usual lithiation of allene 67 at C-l but is followed by a migration of the silyl group from oxygen to C-l, thus forming the lithium enolate 69, which finally adds to the carbonyl species. Transmetalation of the lithiated intermediate 69 to the corresponding zinc enolate provided better access to acylsilanes derived from enolizable aldehydes. For reactions of 69 with ketones, transmetalation to a magnesium species seems to afford optimal results. [Pg.436]

The mechanism of the Zn chloride-assisted, palladium-catalyzed reaction of allyl acetate (456) with carbonyl compounds (457) has been proposed [434]. The reaction involves electroreduction of a Pd(II) complex to a Pd(0) complex, oxidative addition of the allyl acetate to the Pd(0) complex, and Zn(II)/Pd(II) transmetallation leading to an allylzinc reagent, which would react with (457) to give homoallyl alcohols (458) and (459) (Scheme 157). Substituted -lactones are electrosynthesized by the Reformatsky reaction of ketones and ethyl a-bromobutyrate, using a sacrificial Zn anode in 35 92% yield [542]. The effect of cathode materials involving Zn, C, Pt, Ni, and so on, has been investigated for the electrochemical allylation of acetone [543]. [Pg.583]

Lithium-titanium transmetallation of intermediate 374 made possible the chemoselec-tive discrimination between aldehydes and ketones, reacting mainly or exclusively with the first type of carbonyl compounds, as observed for the phthalan-derived intermediate 331. ... [Pg.710]
