The 2-(trimethylsilyl)thiazole-based one-carbon extension strategy was also used for the construction of amino tetroses as well as amino pentoses using a-amino aldehydes as chiral educts. An interesting finding was that the reactions of (1) with the IV-diprotected -amino aldehydes were anti selective (eq 12), whereas those with the Al-monoprotected a-amino aldehydes were syn selective (eq 13).
